school note March 29th.2012

29-3-2012.

Dear parents,

I wish to bring the following to your attention.

Yesterday, a team of Diocesan Examiners in Religious Education visited the school. They visited all classes but particular emphasis was placed on the classes receiving sacraments this year. All feedback was extremely complimentary of the standard of work achieved by teachers and pupils alike. Last Friday, the Confirmation classes took part in a school-based Retreat co-ordinated by Lorna Murphy of the Limerick Diocesan Office.

Today, Third class took part in the Limerick Schools Drama Festival when they staged 'I Didn't Think' in Our Lady of Lourdes School.

The school was well represented in the St Patrick's Day parade in Limerick. April O Neill won the Best Dressed prize sponsored by Red Viking Tours. It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience as children walked behind the school banner. Photos may be viewed on the Red Viking Facebook page.

Well done to our hurling and camogie teams who achieved victory in their games in the City Leagues this week.

The Lost Property bin at the Office is full. If your child has lost a fleece, jacket or polo shirt, please check.

Confirmation is on Friday April 27th at 12 noon for 5th and 6th class pupils.  All candidates' family and relations are most welcome to attend, but remember space is limited in the church.

Tomorrow, Friday, there will be a Recycling Day in aid of the Parents' Association.  All items to be delivered by 9.30 a.m. please.

Please note that school will close for Easter holidays tomorrow Friday at 12.30 p.m. and re-open on Monday April 16th. All classes will go on school tour on Thursday May 24th. School will be closed for the forthcoming referendum on the stability Treaty on Thursday May 31st.

Newsflash! Well done to Third Class and producer Ms. Day who were awarded First Prize in their category in the Schools Drama Festival today. Míle buíochas to Evelyn and Tom O Brien who gave drinks and crisps to the entire cast.

School note March 22nd. 2012

22-3-2012.

Dear parents,

I wish to bring the following to your attention.

Yesterday was Energy Saving Day. The Green Schools Committee was busy monitoring energy usage and trying to ensure lights were switched off unless strictly necessary. Thanks to Mrs Hodgins, Green Schools Co-ordinator, and to Mary Conway who made the eye-catching signs visible throughout the school.

Third Class staged three performances of the play 'I Didn't Think' in the school today -two for pupils and a performance in the afternoon for their parents. The verdict?  A resounding success. I wish them success in the Drama competition in Limerick city next week. Thanks to Ms Day and Anna Henn who have put huge effort into all the details that combine to make a show so successful. Thanks to Mary Conway, programme editor. Thanks also to Mike McGregor and Barney O Brien who assisted with transport of props at short notice and to Barry Munnelly and Frank Coughlan who helped to assemble our newly-acquired stage.

Confirmation is only five weeks away. Fifth and Sixth Class pupils will be on Retreat tomorrow as part of their preparation.

The next Recycling day is Friday 30th of March.  Clothes, shoes, mobile phones will be accepted. Bags will be issued to each family today. All items to be delivered by 9.30 a.m. please.

8-3-2012.

Dear parents,

I wish to bring the following to your attention.

Congratulations to the boys and girls i Rang a Sé who represented the school in the FAI 5-a-side schools soccer blitz in Corbally on Tuesday. The girls had a 100% record, wining all 3 games without conceding a goal. The boys also performed very well. Thank you to all the parents who braved the elements on a wet and windy day to support our teams. A special word of thanks to Kevin and Mary Conway who have been training the girls after school. Kevin also took charge of the boys team on the day.

Mr Hennessy and Mr Lordan are busy training the under 13 hurling squad for the Cumann na mBunscol leagues.

The Junior and Senior Infant classes enjoyed a visit to O Mahony's as part of Book Week activities. All classes are reading voraciously.

A Colours Day in aid of the school's Parents Association will take place next Thursday March 15th. As next week is Seachtain na Gaeilge and St Patrick's Day is approaching, a Green theme is suggested. €2 per child, más é bhúr dtoil é. The Parents' Association has been invaluable to the school.

Advance warning: If you are decluttering, the next Recycling day is Friday 30th of March.  Clothes, shoes, mobile phones will be accepted. Bags will be issued on Thursday March 22nd. All items to be delivered by 9.15 a.m. please.

Ms Sheila Hayes has been appointed Deputy Principal to fill the vacancy caused by the retirement of Mrs Allen. Ms Hayes will take up duty next Monday March 12th. I wish her well. I would also like to thank Mrs Margaret Hodgins, Assistant Principal, who has been acting as Deputy Principal since Mrs Allen retired.

School Note March 1st

1-3-2012.

Dear parents,

I wish to bring the following to your attention.

Last Friday, we bade farewell to Ms Mc Carthy after 16 years in this school. I would like to thank Ms Day, Ms Mulroe and the Sixth Class pupils for the hours of preparation they put into the event. The choir sang superbly. Once again, the Parents Association gave generously of their time and expertise to make the occasion memorable.

Fifth and Sixth Classes continued their preparation for Confirmation with an Enrolment ceremony in St Joseph's Church last Sunday. Thanks to Mrs Mulroe and Mrs Lordan for their time and effort and to Fr. O Connor who takes a great interest in all matters relating to the school.

Well done to Aisling Mc Namara, Second Class, who is a prizewinner in the INTO/EBS  Handwriting competition. Aisling will be presented with her prize at a function next Tuesday.

Today is World Book Day. A range of activities will go on over the next week. I would earnestly request parents to take a few minutes to read with your child.

Any families who wish to order hurling helmets at €50 each are requested to contact me by Friday March 9th.

The school GAA season is upon us. Yesterday, a team from the school played in the Cumann na mBunscol indoor hurling blitz in Old Christians. Today it is the turn of the camogie team.

Gach dea-ghuí,
