school note September 27th

Dear Parents,

I wish to bring the following to your attention.

Last Friday all pupils and staff attended a Mass for the start of the new school year in Ballybrown Church. Thanks to Fr. O Connor for all his help with the preparations and to Mrs Dillon and the members of the school choir who added greatly to the occasion.

The GAA season is in full swing. Last Saturday, our boys played in the Ard Scoil Rís hurling tournament, reaching the semi-final where they lost by one point to eventual winners Clonlara N.S.. However, we did have something to show for our efforts as we were runners-up in the Shield competition. It was a long day, beginning with registration at 9.15 a.m., but enjoyable for all concerned. Special thanks to Mr Lordan and Mr Hennessy who gave so generously of their time last Saturday.

Please check your child’s Homework Diary every night, Monday to Thursday. It is a good idea to sign the Homework Diary and check that homework is being done properly.

The Healthy Eating policy has been a great success for many years. A minority of pupils bring in chocolate, bars etc.  The sugar content of many ‘Health/ Cereal Bars’ is very high. It would be appreciated if everybody would stick to the suggested lunch of fruit, sandwich and water.

*Tomorrow is the closing date for the Allianz schools personal accident insurance.

**Credit Union for all classes will resume tomorrow morning in school.

I would like to express my gratitude to all the families for their Art & Craft/Photocopying contributions. All monies are spent on Art & Craft materials used in class and to defray the cost of photocopying. . If you have not yet paid this money, you can give it to Rosemarie in the school office any day between 9a.m. and 2p.m.

Le dea mhéin,

School note September 20th. 2012

20-9-2012.

Dear parents,

I wish to bring the following to your attention.

The starting date for the Community Centre/ Resource House is next Monday September 24th. This will have implications for the school in terms of parking. Approximately half of the car parking area currently used by parents will be taken over by the builder until the completion of the project. Entrance and exit will be through one opening, the opening nearest the school. There will be approximately 20 spaces available to parents. I would encourage parents to use the Church Car Park as much as possible. As the first few weeks will be very busy, parents are advised to exercise extreme caution. Representatives of the Community Council, Board of Management and Parents Association have met on a number of occasions to try to minimise hazards but ultimately responsibility lies with each and every parent to be extra mindful of children going to and from school. Please respect the need for Bus, Disabled and Staff parking.

All children will attend a special Mass for the opening of the school year in the Church tomorrow morning at 10.15 a.m.

I would like to express my gratitude to all the families for their Art & Craft/Photocopying contributions. If you have not yet paid this money, you can give it to Rosemarie in the school office any day between 9a.m. and 2p.m.

I have noticed a number of children arriving at school after 9.20 a.m. on a regular basis. This causes unnecessary disruption and I would urge parents to try to have children at school by 9.15 a.m.

Parents of Sixth Class are advised that application forms and information sheets relating to post-primary school were distributed today. Please read these carefully.

Finally, it is school policy to put relevant information about all school-related activities, including sports fixtures, on the school website www.ballybrownns.ie. Please check the website regularly.

Gach dea-ghuí,

School note September 6th

6-9-2012

Dear parents,

Enclosed with this letter are permission slips for school related outings &activities.  Please sign and return to the school at your earliest convenience. Also forms for Pupil Personal Insurance. There are two types: school day cover or all-year-round. This is entirely voluntary but has proven very popular with parents in the past. Should you decide to avail of this insurance, please hand monies to the School Office by Friday September 21st.

The AGM of the school’s Parents Association will take place in the school on Monday September 10th. at 8 p.m. in Ms Gibbons’ room. All parents are welcome.

I will speak briefly on the structures and systems of the school. Cora Harty, Secretary of the PA has asked me to point out that a number of long-serving and active members of the Committee will no longer have children in the school after this year so new blood is needed. For parents new to the school, this is a great opportunity to meet other parents and become involved in the school community.

I would like to express my gratitude to all the families for their Art & Craft/Photocopying contributions. If you have not yet paid this money, you can give it to Rosemarie in the school office any day between 9a.m. and 2 p.m.

All classes from First to Sixth sit Standardised tests in English and Maths each year. These scores were recorded on your child’s end of year report last June. If your child achieved a Sten of 9 or 10 in either test, you may be interested in classes run by the Centre for Talented Youth in DCU. Further details on: http://www4.dcu.ie/ctyi/index.shtml . Please note these courses involve a fee.

Gach dea-ghuí,
