School Note November 29th

29-11-2012

Dear parents,

The Green Schools Committee has organised an Art Competition for Christmas.. Children are asked to make a Christmas decoration from recycled material. Closing date is December 8th.

Thank you to all parents who attended parent-teacher meetings last week and to the teachers who put a lot of work into preparation for these meetings. If for some reason, you were not in a position to attend, please contact the school as soon as possible.

During the course of parent-teacher meetings, some parents expressed a desire for their child to repeat a class. Under Department of Education rules governing this issue, Circular 19/2011 makes reference to Circular 32/03 concerning retention of children in same class-

Section 2.3 states: ‘Under the Department’s policy, children should only be allowed to repeat a year for educational reasons and in exceptional circumstances.’

The Christmas pageant will take place in Ballybrown Church on Monday December 17th at 7 p.m. Rehearsals are in full swing.

The Peace Proms Choir will perform in UL on Sunday January 27th. All choir members have received a note re tickets etc today.

A meeting of the Parents Association will take place on Monday next December 3rd. at 8.30 p.m. Please see overleaf re Bagpacking in Tesco on December 22nd..

Ballybrown/Clarina Community Games: U11 Rugby Training continues this Saturday in the school field 1:30 to 2:30. All newcomers welcome.
U10/U12/U14 Draughts Training continues Thursday in the school  7:10p.m.-8:10.p.m. All newcomers welcome

Note re e mail addresses

13-11-2012
Dear parents,
The school is currently engaging in self-evaluation as part of our Literacy and Numeracy Strategy. We wish to conduct a Parental Survey in the area of Maths. In an effort to reduce our use of paper we would like to carry this out electronically. Families with internet access and an active email address are asked to complete and return the slip below. A hard copy of the survey will be sent to parents without email addresses.
The school would also like to give parents the option of receiving the weekly Thursday note as an e mail. There would be a significant saving for the school and you will receive the note even if your child is absent. Please indicate below if you wish to avail of this option. There is no obligation on parents to switch if they are happy with the current arrangement.
Yours,
Joe Lyons,
Principal

School note November 22nd 2012

22-11-2012
Dear parents,
I wish to bring the following to your attention.
The Book Fair was a great success last week. I wish to thank the members of the Parents Association who gave generously of their time both during school hours and at night. Total sales came to €2,415.74. The school is entitled to purchase books to the value of  60% of this amount. This is of great benefit to all children in the school.
There has recently been an exceptionally high number of sick children in school. This contributes to spreading sickness. School is not the place for a child who is unwell.
Today, folk group 'The Twitters' gave three performances in school. Apart from enjoying a live performance, the children were treated to examples of vocal harmony, a variety of instruments, breathing techniques interspersed with traditional Irish songs with some Christmas songs thrown in. All in all, a most enjoyable day.
Well done to Aisling Laffey, Joanne Davoren and Tomás O Connor who all represented Limerick City in the Cumann na mBunscol competitions in UL last week.
If you wish to receive the Thursday note by e mail, please send in your e mail details to the school. The form may also be accessed on the school website.
The National Parents Council is hosting an information evening on Internet Safety & Cyberbullying in the South Court Hotel, Raheen on Wednesday next November 28th at 8 p.m.
Please see the reverse of this page for a note concerning Bagpacking on Saturday December 22nd.

School note November 8th 2012

8-11-2012

Dear Parents,

As you are already aware, parent teacher meetings will take place over two afternoons, Wednesday November 21st. and Thursday November 22nd  between 3.15 p.m. and 5.30 p.m. You will receive appointment times in the post next week. As there is twice as much time being made available this year compared to previous years, I would earnestly request parents to meet teachers on these dates in order to avoid disruption to classes.

Congratulations to Ross Fitzgerald, Bobby Smith and Orla O Shaughnessy, prizewinners in the Halloween Fancy Dress competition for Best  Costume.

Sixth Class started a six-week programme of swimming lessons yesterday in Askeaton Leisure Centre. Fifth Class will follow suit after Christmas.

If you are available to assist with the Book Fair on Thursday 15th. November. between 2p.m. and 4 p.m. or 7.30 p.m. and 9 p.m. or on Friday 16th. between 9 and 10 a.m. or 2 p.m. to 3.30 p.m., please contact Claire Shields at 061 353346 or 085 7846255.

Please see overleaf for details of the Book Fair.

A meeting of the Parents Association will take place in the school on Monday next November 12th at 8.30 p.m. Thank you to all the parents who helped with the Rag and Phone collection before mid term. There was a great response.

Rosemary Locke has informed me that U 11 Mini Rugby training for boys  aged 8-11yrs, starts this Saturday 3-4pm in School Field, coached by Peter White and Liam Collins (IRFU registered). All players must have a gum shield.
