School note April 25th 2013

25-4-2013.

Dear parents,

I wish to bring the following to your attention.

Today, the Green Schools Committee organised a Spring Clean Day. All classes in the school cleaned their room and the Committee also organised a clean-up in the school grounds.

Yesterday was Low Energy Day when a special effort was made to cut down on electricity wastage. In total, the electricity consumption for the day was 41 units. The lowest recorded total in the last year was 62 units. Well done to all involved.

It has been a busy week on the sporting front. Ms Mulroe entered a team of Fourth Class girls in the Girls football blitz in Mary Immaculate College on Tuesday. It was a most enjoyable day, with the added bonus that the Ballybrown girls won all four matches they played. Our Under 13 hurlers defeated St Paul’s in the Olo Cup on Tuesday while our Under 13 camogie team play  Caherdavin girls today.

School tours for all classes take place on Thursday May 30th. All details are on the school website. It is possible to pay anytime over the next five weeks. Please put the money in an envelope with your child’s name on it for the attention of your child’s teacher.

Cora Harty has asked me to remind any parents interested in traditional music lessons for children by Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Eireann to return the forms by tomorrow, Friday.

Thank you to all the parents who return Absence Notes to the school when your child is unable to attend at school. As Principal, I am required to make annual returns to the National Education Welfare Board, detailing absences in excess of 20 days and reasons for these absences. I appreciate your continued co operation.

Gach dea-ghui

School note April 18th 2013

18-4-2013.

Dear parents.

I wish to bring the following to your attention.

On Tuesday, First, Third and Mr Lordan's Fifth class took part in an Energy Workshop as part of our Energy campaign in connection with the Green Schools activities. It was a hands-on experience with experiments, games and various activities.   Thanks to Mrs Hodgins who organised the visit.

Next Wednesday April 24th., the Green School Committee will organise a Low Energy Day as part of their ongoing work. On Thursday, April 25th., the school will take part in  the annual Spring Clean Day. We are extremely fortunate to work in such a beautiful unspoilt environment and everybody in the school community has a part to play in keeping the school so clean. Visitors to the school frequently remark on our idyllic location.

If your child plays hurling or camogie and does not own a helmet, the school has a limited supply for sale at €40 each. Helmets come in three sizes, small, medium or large. They are green and white with the school crest.

Our Under 13 hurling and camogie teams were in action this week. Unfortunately, we lost both games narrowly but there is reason for optimism after two fine displays against JFK and Milford respectively.

News has reached the school this morning that the school has been awarded its second Green Flag. This is well deserved and a fitting acknowledgement of all the work done over the last two years.

Don't forget that all information on upcoming events, school calendar etc may be viewed on www.ballybrownns.ie

Gach dea ghui,
