School note June 27th. 2013

Dear parents,

Yesterday, the end of year Mass and Sixth Class graduation took place. It was a lovely occasion as 31 boys and girls bade goodbye to the school after eight years. For some families, it was tinged with sadness as the day marked the end of a long association with Ballybrown National School. I would like to put on record my thanks to all the teachers who have worked with this group over the years and to Special Needs Assistant Mary Conway who has been a constant presence  The class, under the direction of Ms Day, performed a number of songs to round off a memorable occasion. Special thanks to the members of the Parents Association who looked after refreshments.     Fr O Connor launched the school yearbook which is now on sale in the school. Price: €3 or two for €5. The yearbook provides a record of a year's activities in the school.

I would like to thank all the parents who helped during the year with transport for matches in football, hurling and camogie. I would especially like to thank the members of the Parents' Association who worked so hard during the year. The money they raised was well spent and all for the benefit of the children. I would like to thank especially those parents who helped with refreshments on the occasion of Holy Communion, Confirmation, graduation and retirements

Hurling fever is sweeping Limerick at the moment. We are very proud that two of our players, Alanna McGregor and Cian Hall will wear the Limerick colours in the Primary Games, which aer played during the interval in the senior game.

All classes have received their booklists and I am delighted to see so many families trading in secondhand books. There are plenty of books available in good condition. Please check that all pages are intact etc.

Tomorrow, the school will bid farewell to three valued staff members, Special Needs Assistants Anna Henn and Dolores O Neill and Classroom Assistant Jackie King. All three are known to children in every class. in the school.  We will miss them greatly and they take our best wishes with them.

School will close tomorrow Friday at 12.30 p.m. sharp and re-open on Thursday August 29th. I hope you all enjoy the summer break and I look forward to seeing you  in the new school year.

A message from Ballybrown NS Parents Association

A Word from the Parents Association

We would like to take this opportunity to say a very special thank you to all the parents who assisted during the year, attending meetings, assisting with the bag pack in Tesco and the Book week, and contributing recycled materials for the Rag and Phone days.

Thank you also to the Parents who assisted with events which took place in the school this year including communion and graduation.

All these events enabled us to provide much needed funds for the school.  The Parents association have donated over €3,000 to the school this year.  A substantial amount of money has gone towards purchasing tools and equipment for the schools Literacy and numeracy program.  There has also been investment in science equipment for the senior classes, along with science games and equipment for the junior classes, a bullying and drama workshop for 6th class designed to prepare them for secondary school, also covered the costs of the schools registration for cross country and GAA competitions and also a Christmas donation to the teachers on behalf of all parents.

All investments have proved very popular and have been of great benefit to all the children in all classes.

Thank you

School note June 20th. 2013

Dear parents,

Tomorrow, the school will celebrate the awarding of our second Green Flag. This is a great achievement. The school will mark the occasion with a short ceremony at 12.45 p.m. Congratulations to all involved.

Yesterday, we held our annual Sports Fun Day. The sun shone and the mood was sunny too. Thanks to all the school staff who organised the day's activities so efficiently. A boy in Junior Infants described the day to me as 'awesome!' and I think that says it all. Well done to everybody.

All families have by now received end of year reports and Book Lists for next year. It should be possible to buy secondhand books in many instances. Please ensure that they are all in good condition with all pages intact.

Do you need to declutter? In September, the school will have two Junior infants classes. Mrs Fitzgerald would appreciate if you could provide any of the following: jigsaws, cars, trucks, dolls, clothes for dressing up, toys for imaginative play e.g. Post Office, garage, etc.

A note from the Parents Association: The Graduation of 6th class is being held on Wednesday 26th June at 1.30pm in the school.  We are looking for any parents who may be available that day to help serve teas and coffees to parents and guests.  Please could you contact Cora Harty on 087 418 5586 if you are free. Thank you in advance.

If your child is interested in starting music, Comhaltas information evening takes place on Monday next 24th at 7.30pm in the Community centre. All are welcome, lessons are available for both adults and children.

School will close next Friday June 28th. at 12.30 p.m. for all pupils
