School note March 27th 2014

Dear parents,
                    Preparations are in full swing for Confirmation on Thursday next April 3rd.  Bishop Leahy will confirm 71 children from Fifth and Sixth classes. Thanks to all the teachers and children involved in preparations for what promises to be a special day.                 
                     Well done to the boys who won the City INTO Mini Sevens hurling title on Tuesday, defeating Patrickswell NS by 5-0 to 4-2 in a thrilling final. The girls also did the school proud in camogie, defeating Gaelscoil Chaladh an Treoighe before losing to St Paul’s NS in the decider.
                      School tours will take place on May 28th. for Junior Infants and May 29th for all other classes. Full details and prices overleaf.
                       Best wishes to Eoin Waters, Dara Harrington and Aaron Waldron who perform in Noye’s Fludde in St Mary’s Cathedral this weekend. This is a Community Opera featuring children from schools throughout Limerick.
                   Parents Association news: The Colours Day raised 446 euros. Thank you to all who contributed. Volunteers are still needed to help with teas and coffee on Confirmation day, Thursday April 3rd. Please contact Claire Shields on 085 7846 255 if you are free to help on that day.
Ballybrown GAA: U10 football training will change location from Tues April 1st to the school field from 6-7pm. All welcome.
BALLYBROWN/CLARINA COMMUNITY GAMES: We are looking for anybody interested in taking part in U13 Boys & Girls Rounders
Training on Saturdays at 5.30pm in Ballybrown school field and after school on Mondays at 3.10pm in Breska Soccer Field. Contact Diane Curran if you are interested on 085 8229492.
We are also looking for anybody interested in taking part in the Swimming B competition, this event is a County only competition and takes place in Askeaton Pool on Sunday 27th April, if you can swim 25 meters (1 length) let us know what stroke you would like to do and we can enter you. School note March 20th 2014

Dear parents,
                   Yesterday, we had a visit from the Diocesan Examiners in religion. Fr Liam and Fiona visited all the classes and were very complimentary about the high standard of work in evidence. The Confirmation classes took part in a one-day Retreat last week under the guidance of Fr Chris O Donnell.
                    Today, Lauren O Gorman, Sixth Class, represented the school in the Eason’s Spelling Bee. Lauren won the title in this school last month.
                  Congratulations to Darragh O Sullivan, Lucy Keyes and  Aisling Murphy who were prizewinners  in the Community Games handwriting competition. Scott White, James McCarthy and Oran Curran were prizewinners in the Art section. Darragh and Lucy go forward to represent Limerick in the National Finals in Athlone in August.
   Confirmation –  The Parents Association are looking for volunteers to help with teas and coffees on the day of the Confirmation, Thurs 3rd April.  We need 4 people to help set up from 11am to 12 noon and around 10 volunteers from 2pm till 4 pm.  Please contact Claire Shields on 085 7846 255 if you are free that day.
.  Friday March 28th. is Daffodil Day   Daffodils needed for  sale in local shops etc. Any daffodils will be collected on Friday morning March 28th. at the school.
                                                   Ballybrown GAA Juvenile Club :  U-6, U-8 & U-10’s will be back training on Friday 21st at 5:45pm in the clubhouse field.  Hurley, helmet & shin guards essential.  New players welcome.       Parents & Players of our U-12, U-14 & U-16 Hurling & Camogie Teams are invited to help out with this year’s Parish Clean Up organised in conjunction with the Tidy Towns Committee on Saturday next (22nd March). Meet at new field at 10am (don’t forget your hi-vis jacket!).   Brendan Grace will be performing in Ballybrown GAA Club on Sunday 23rd March at 8pm. Tickets €25 available from O’Sullivan’s Centra, Martin Hayes Grocery or the Clubhouse.

School note March 13th 2014

13-3-2014.
Dear parents,
                    This is Seachtain na Gaeilge. Activities as gaeilge have been going on throughout the school. Rang a Trí agus rang a Ceathar   took part in Quiz Boird on Tuesday while Rang a Cúig agus Rang a Sé will get their turn later in the week.. Several classes have been brushing up on Céilí Dancing while the two Sixth class groups have also availed of hip-hop classes with some Mary Immaculate College students who are specialising in Dance as part of their Elective  Option in Physical Education.
                Green School: The Green School committee is carrying out a survey on Water Usage. It is on the Thursday note. Parents who receive the note by e mail will receive a hard copy f the survey. Please fill in and return to the school.
                71 children from Fifth and Sixth Classes will make their Confirmation on Thursday April 3rd at 1 p.m. This is an exceptionally large number of children. Space in the church will be at a premium. Parents are strongly advised to come to the ceremony in good time. The Resource Centre will be available. A video link will be set up to enable anybody who wishes to see the ceremony to do so. Communion will be available in the Resource Centre also.
                Hurling helmets, in green and white, with 'Ballybrown NS' stamped on them may be ordered from the school at a subsidised rate of €50 each.    They come in three sizes. Small, Medium and Large.  Please contact the school as soon as possible.
                    Scouts & Cubs: An information meeting for parents of boys and girls aged 9-10  who are interested in joining the Cubs or Scouts will take place on Tuesday March 18th at 9 p.m. in the Resource Centre.

St Patrick's Day Parade 2014

Dear Parent,
                          Red Viking Tours is taking part in the parade again this year.  They would like to invite again the children of Ballybrown N.S. to take part with them.  The theme this year is City of Culture and children taking part are required to come in costume to fit with the theme.  A prize will be awarded to the Best Dressed Child.  Numbers are limited on the coach and adult volunteers are also needed to accompany the group.  For more details and to book a place please contact Fionnagh in Carrig Coaches on 061-394033.

School note March 6th 2014

Dear parents,

                    This is Book Week. Today is World Book Day. A great variety of activities are going on throughout the school to encourage children to read including Mystery Readers, A story as a School and My Favourite Book. Ask your child about these. For younger children, reading to your child is time well spent. Check the school website for tips for parents.

                   Last week, our Fourth Class boys played indoor hurling. Training has commenced  for the Olo Cup and under 13 competitions. David Dooley has been visiting the school each Tuesday afternoon for hurling coaching with Third class and Second class. Under 13 Camogie will be starting shortly.  Hurling helmets, in green and white, with ‘Ballybrown NS’ stamped on them may be ordered from the school at a subsidised rate of €50 each.    They come in three sizes. Small, Medium and Large.

            Ballybrown Tidy Towns Committee and our Green Schools Committee are co operating over the rest of this year to create a school garden.  The raised beds are in place and plans are being devised for the growing season. Thanks to Tim Toomey, Michael Gavin and Michael John Cosgrave for all the help.
