School note June 26th.2014

26-6-2014.

Dear parents,

As outlined previously, the school has embarked on a Book Rental project, initially limited to four books for classes from Third to Sixth inclusive. Parents interested in availing of the scheme paid for the books today. The books will be available when your child returns to school on August 27th. On Tuesday, a group of parents worked diligently removing labels, covers etc. from books purchased from families in the school. Their work is greatly appreciated. These books have now  been re-covered professionally by Eason's in the Parkway Shopping Centre, along with new books purchased for the Book Rental scheme. Eason's have given this school a very good deal.  Eason's in the Parkway are currently holding a sale and there is 10% off all schoolbooks until the middle of July.

Class arrangements for next school year are detailed overleaf. As Mrs Hanly and Mrs O Connor will be jobsharing, a temporary vacancy arises. This vacancy will be for a teacher of Third Class. Parents of children in Senior Infants will receive class details by post.

On Tuesday,  Limerick hurler Gavin O Mahony presented the  medals for the Olo Cup and the Limerick Leader Cup to the school's Under 13 hurling team. We were delighted that three members of the Ballybrown team that won the Leader Cup in 1946 were able to attend. Paddy O Connor, Davy Hannon and Willie Collins were special guests and their memories of the match 68 years ago were crystal clear.

Yesterday, we bade farewell to Sixth class. The Graduation ceremony was organised and choreographed to the highest standard. The choir performed superbly to mark a fitting goodbye for a fine group of children.  Ms Day, Ms Mulroe and Mr Hodnett, take a bow! A special word of thanks to the parents who provided refreshments on both Monday and Wednesday.

Tomorrow, Special Needs Assistant Nora Casey leaves the school after eight years. We will all miss her and we wish her well.

Appeal for toys. In September, the school will have two Junior Infants and two Senior Infant classes. The teachers would appreciate if you could provide any of the following: jigsaws, cars, trucks, dolls, clothes for dressing up, toys for imaginative play e.g. Post Office, garage, farm, kitchen etc. Please drop them into the school next week if possible.

Please note that school will close for the summer holidays tomorrow Friday June 27th. at 12.30 p.m. It would be appreciated if all children were collected promptly.

On behalf of all the staff of Ballybrown NS, I wish you all an enjoyable break

Yours,

School note June 19th.2014

19-6-2014.

Dear Parents,

Today we had a Non- Competitive Fun Sports Day in the school. We were very fortunate that several teachers had attended inservice training in this area and organised the day's events superbly. We also had the good fortune that Mr Liam Clohessy, who is completing his Masters in Physical Education in Mary Immaculate College,  joined us for the day. His help and expertise were greatly appreciated.

For the afternoon, children and adults alike enjoyed  Zumba with instructor Darren Nash. I am really grateful to all the teachers who worked so hard to ensure the day was a success. I am also grateful to some former pupils who volunteered to help out for the day.

Book Rental: All children in Second, Third, Fourth and Fifth classes will receive a note tomorrow offering parents the option of renting 4 books next year for  €15. Please ensure you read this note.

School note June 12th 2014

12-6-2014.

Dear parents,

I am pleased to inform you that the school will introduce a Book Rental scheme in the next school year. This should result in considerable savings for parents. As most of the books in the junior classes are workbooks, the Book Rental scheme will initially operate from 3rd. to 6th classes. Workbooks and stationery are not included in the Book Rental scheme. Starting in the new school year, children will be able to rent 4 books for a total of €15 approx. It is hoped to increase the number of books available in future years. Book lists will be available next week. Please check the book list to see which books are available under Book Rental before you purchase.

The school calendar for 2014-2015 is on the other side of this note and has been posted on the school website. Please keep in a safe place.

End of year School Reports will issue to all families next week along with an explanatory note re interpreting your child's standardised tests and a note regarding class arrangements for next year.  Please supply the school with a stamped addressed envelope, minimum DL size (22cm x 11 cm). Separate envelopes required for each pupil.

The boys and girls in Sixth Class are working on the 2014 school magazine. If you wish to purchase an advertisement in this publication for a bargain price of €25, please contact the school office.

Congratulations to the school's Under 13 hurling team who won the Limerick Leader Cup in the Gaelic Grounds today. It has been a memorable season on the sporting front with the school winning the Limerick City Cumann na mBunscol titles in Under 13 hurling and football and today's result means that Ballybrown NS are now county champions in hurling after a 13 year gap. Special thanks due to Mr Hodnett and Mr Lordan whose work bore fruit today.

The school sports Fun Day will take place on Thursday June 19th., weather permitting.

Ballybrown GAA: Ballybrown Juvenile Club Annual Duck Race will be held on Sunday 22ndJune at O'Dea's (De Bucket) from 2pm

BBQ, Music, Novelty Boat Races, Duck Race, Bouncy Castles, Bingo, Special Guests for the Kiddies.Fun for all the family – ALL WELCOME.

We will be having a collection point on Sunday the 22nd of June between 5:30pm and 6:30pm in Ballybrown GAA club.
