School note November 27th. 2014

Dear parents,

I wish to bring the following to your attention.

There is just a week to go to the performance of the 'Hallelujah Chorus' in Citywest and it's all systems go for the big day. Over 130 children will enjoy the opportunity to perform at this unique event. It promises to be a great experience for all involved.

On Tuesday, we had a visit from Limerick ladies footballers Paula Godfrey and Caroline Hickey and Cork All Ireland winning footballer Sarah Harrington to mark the first-ever victory for  Ballybrown NS in the City girls football competitions. The three players also presented medals to the boys under 13 football team, runners up in the City leagues and to our three prizewinning teams at the County Cross country finals. Fiona, Caroline and Ciara are ideal role models as they spoke of the friendships they have made through sport.

The boys and girls in Junior Infants enjoyed a special treat this week when Garda Frank O Sullivan visited to speak to them about the role of the Garda. We are very grateful to Frank for taking the time out of his busy schedule.

Last Friday, the pupils in Fifth and Sixth classes finished a ten week course in ICT with Whizzkids. The final lesson was on the topic of internet safety. Parents need to be very vigilant in this area of modern life.

Please note that  Friday January 23rd.. is the closing date for applications to be enrolled in Junior Infants in 2014-2015.

The Christmas Carol Service will take place on Tuesday December 16th in Ballybrown Church. More details closer to the date.

Ballybrown GAA: Santa Claus is scheduled to arrive in Ballybrown GAA club on Sunday December 21st. at 3 p.m.

Dear parents,

I wish to bring the following to your attention.

On Monday last, Mairead Kelly, Health Promotion officer with the HSE, met with all staff and made a presentation. Ballybrown NS is going to become a Health Promoting School. The main area of activity we will tackle is exercise and promoting an active lifestyle. After Christmas,  a committee will be formed and we will be looking for parents to become involved. The school already has a very successful Healthy Eating policy and will continue to promote healthy eating.

On the theme of exercise: Fourth Class began swimming lessons in Askeaton Leisure Centre yesterday.

Third Class and Sixth class have enjoyed PE classes with Third year students from Mary Immaculate College who are pursuing PE as a specialised area of interest. Thanks to Richard Bowles of the PE Department for giving us  this opportunity.

Best wishes to Aoife O Connor, Keith Punch and Eoghan Kelly who represent Limerick City in the Interdivisional Gaelic Football Cumann na mBunscol competitions in UL today.

Preparations for the Hallelujah Chorus in Citywest, Dublin on December 4th. are in full swing. Approximately 135 children from this school will take part.

Parent teacher meetings take place on Wednesday and Thursday November 26th and 27th. from 3.15 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. All parents will receive notification of their appointments in the post on Monday.

School note November 6th. 2014

Dear parents,

I wish to bring the following to your attention.

Yesterday, 55 children from this school took part in the Limerick Cross Country Sports in Rathkeale. It was a most enjoyable experience for all who took part. Ballybrown NS won the Girls Under 9 team category  and was placed second in the Boys Under 10 category.  I am grateful to all the parents who attended and helped in so many ways.

Parent teacher meetings will take place on Wednesday and Thursday November 26th and 27th between 3.15 p.m. and 5.30 p.m. It is hoped to confirm appointments by the end of next week.  All parents will receive written confirmation of appointments. With 175 families in the school, scheduling meetings for 270 children over two days is a formidable task. Your co- operation is greatly appreciated.

Swimming classes for children in Fourth Class start on Wednesday next November 12th. in Askeaton Leisure Centre.

The Parents Association are looking for volunteers with the Book Fair.  If you are available to assist on Thursday 13th November, between 2pm - 4pm or between  7.30pm and 9.30pm, or on Friday 14th between 9am-10am  or  from 2pm to 3.30pm, please text Claire Shields at 085 7846255.

It has come to my attention that a number of children are dropped at school at an early hour. I wish to remind parents that the school cannot accept responsibility for children who are at school before 9 a.m. All children are supervised in the playground from 9 a.m. on morning when the weather is dry and in their classrooms on wet mornings.

Well done to Alicja Nalaskowska and Emily Buckley, prizewinners in the MPCC Credit Union Art Competition.
