School note December 11th

11-12-2014

Dear parents,

Last Thursday, 130 children from Third to Sixth classes took part in  the Hallelujah Chorus in Citywest, just outside Dublin. It was a wonderful experience, enjoyed by all. Three buses left the school at 11 a.m. and returned shortly before midnight. The children sang songs from a CD which every family had received. Boyband  Hometown as well as the group Seo Linn were among the performers. 2000 children from schools all over Ireland took part. I am grateful to all the teachers who travelled to Citywest and especially to Ms Day and Ms O Connor who prepared the choir.

Next Tuesday,  December 16th., the school will stage a Christmas Carol Service in St. Joseph's Church. There will be two performances, one at 10 a.m. and another at 11.30 a.m. As space is limited, I suggest that parents of children from Junior Infants to Second class inclusive might attend at 10 a.m. and parents of children from 3rd. to 6th. class might attend at 11.30 a.m.

I am keenly aware of the financial pressures that all families face at this time of year. The Parents Association has asked me to inform you that, as was the case for the last few years, they will donate a gift to the staff on behalf of all parents. Teachers do not expect a gift from children. If children would like to give something personal they could perhaps make their own card as a gift to their teacher.

Parents Association: The Ballybrown NS Parents' Association is holding its next meeting tonight Thursday December 11th. at 8.30pm. in the school. There are a number of committee positions vacant which they hope could be filled pre-Christmas. The Parents' Association plays an important role in raising any concerns that parents may have and raises funds for the benefit of the school.  They would be grateful if as many parents as possible could attend; in particular  parents who are new to the school.

Resource Centre news: Christmas Fair on Sunday December 14th. in Ballybrown/Clarina Resource Centre at 10.45a.m.

Cake Sale incl. Christmas cakes, puddings mince pies etc. Special Guest Mrs Claus

Christmas Candles, Decorations, Floral Arrangements, Mini Farmers Market,

Children's Corner with Colouring & Face-painting,   School Choir Performance

Raffle, Christmas Card Competition Prize-giving, Complimentary Refreshments

All proceeds in aid of Resource Centre.

Ballybrown Juvenile club: Santa will be at the Clubhouse on Sunday December 21st at 3 p.m. Special guest Elsa from Frozen the Movie. All welcome.

Holiday arrangements: School closes on Friday December 19th. at 12.30 p.m.

Parents of children in Junior and Senior infants are asked to collect those children at 12.10 p.m. to alleviate the parking problems that could arise.

Yours,

School Note December 4th.

                   4-12-2014.

Dear parents,

Today, over 130 children from the school, accompanied by their teachers, set off for Citywest to take part in the Hallelujah Chorus. All the weeks of practice have been worthwhile. I would like to thank Ms O Connor and Ms Day and all the teachers who have given so generously of their time and their talents.  It is a once in a lifetime oportunity.

All children will attend 10 a.m. Mass in Ballybrown Church on Monday December 8th., the feast of the Immaculate Conception.

Parent teacher meetings: Thank you to all parents who attended parent-teacher meetings last week and to the teachers who put a lot of work into preparation for these meetings. If for some reason, you were not in a position to attend, please contact the school as soon as possible.

During the course of parent-teacher meetings, some parents expressed a desire for their child to repeat a class. Under Department of Education rules governing this issue, Circular 19/2011 makes reference to Circular 32/03 concerning retention of children in same class-

Section 2.3 states: 'Under the Department's policy, children should only be allowed to repeat a year for educational reasons and in exceptional circumstances.'

Drama: West Midlands Theatre from Wolverhampton staged 'Sinbad the Jolly Sailor' for classes from First to Fourth on Tuesday.

Parents Association: The Ballybrown NS Parents' Association is holding its next meeting on Thursday the 11th of December at 8.30pm. There are a number of committee positions vacant which they hope could be filled pre-Christmas. The Parents' Association plays an important role in raising any concerns that parents may have and raises funds for the benefit of the school.  They would be grateful if as many parents as possible could attend; in particular  parents who are new to the school.

Community Games:Art Competition – this competition will take place on FRIDAY 12th December in Ballybrown Resource Centre from 3-5pm. This competition is open to Boys/Girls from U8's – U16's. A4 paper will be provided but children must bring whatever colouring media and accessories they want to do the competition with (crayons, markers, paints, charcoal etc.) No visual aids or pictures will be allowed. Here is a link to the community games website if you would like details and the rules on this competition. http://www.communitygames.ie/handwriting.html
