School note May 25th

25-5-2016.

Dear parents,

I wish to bring the following to your attention.

As previously notified, the school will be closed tomorrow as the teachers are attending Inservice Training for the new Language Curriculum.

Well done to the school under 13 camogie team who won the Limerick City Cumann na mBunscol final in the Gaelic Grounds last Friday, defeating Milford NS. The team will now advance to the County competition, the Green and White Shield in June. Thanks especially to Ms Keyes and Ms Hayes, the team trainers.

All classes will be on school tour on Thursday June 16th. All teachers will be on tour that day also so the school will be closed. If possible, all tour monies should be in by Thursday June 2nd as the school has to confirm numbers with bus companies and the various venues that classes will visit.

School Sports Day is the following day Friday June 17th, weather permitting.

As we approach the end of another school year, please ensure that you inform the school of the reason for any absences. Notes were provided for this purpose at the beginning of the school year. The school has a statutory obligation to make a report to Túsla in the case of every child who is absent for twenty days or more in any school year. It is vital that you furnish the school with a reason for any absences.

School note May 19th

19-5-2016

Dear parents,

Last Saturday, 36 children from Ballybrown NS received their First Holy Communion. It was a beautiful day, a wonderful occasion and a credit to everybody involved. Thanks especially to Mrs Mulroe and Mrs O Connor, class teachers, and to Mrs Millar who looked after the musical side of things.

Well done to all the children, 50 in all, who took part in the Limerick City Sports at UL yesterday.  Thanks to Mrs Hanly and Ms O Shaughnessy who looked after the team and to all the children. As usual, their behaviour was excellent.

Best wishes to our under 13 camogie team who are in the City Cumann na mBunscol final on Friday in the Gaelic Grounds. Throw in 10.50 a.m.

The school is experiencing unprecedented demand for places. A day rarely passes without an enquiry from parents wishing to enrol children in the school. The Board of Management has submitted an application for Additional School Accommodation to the Department of Education and Skills. If any parents wish to contact public representatives to strengthen our case, it would be appreciated.

The Parents Association would like to express a huge thank you to all that baked and supported the Cake Sale and Raffle on Sunday morning. It was a resounding success with some fantastic entries from the 3rd to 6th class pupils for the  inaugural Ballybrown Bake Off competition. We raised approx. €1,100 which will go directly towards the "Literacy Lift Off" program in Ballybrown School. We are very grateful to all the local businesses/parents who very kindly supported us and to Mr. Lyons and all the staff who helped us promote this event.

We have recently enjoyed a spell of very fine weather.  Pupils may wear plain navy shorts to school if they wish. No denim, stripes or logos.

It is with great sadness that we learned yesterday of the death of Margaret Hagan. Sincere condolences from the entire school community to her husband Barry and daughter Clodagh. Our thoughts are with them at this sad time.

We also learned at the weekend of the death of Mrs Nancy Shanahan who was a teacher in this school for many years. Ar dheis Dé go raibh sí.

Reminder: School will be closed for pupils on Thursday next May 26th as the teachers are attending Inservice on the new Primary Language Curriculum.

Camogie final change of time

Message from Secretary of City Cumann na mBunscol

Please ensure that all spectators stay off the grass at all times.

Presentations will be in the Mackey stand, not on the pitch.

Entry to the stadium by the Clareview entrance only.

Camogie will be 15 mins a half.    Extra time of 5 mins a half if a game finishes level.

Playing in the Gaelic Grounds should be an unforgettable experience for the children.  It is an opportunity to play in a great stadium in front of hundreds of spectators, including parents and relatives.  Please ensure games are played in the best possible spirit.  The Board hope that everyone has a great day.

Change of time: Ballybrown V Milford camogie final will now throw in at 10.50 a.m.
