School note September 22nd

22-9-2016

Dear parents,

It has come to my attention that a number of children are dropped at school at an early hour. I wish to remind parents that the school cannot accept responsibility for children who are at school before 9 a.m.  The school provides morning supervision for 15 minutes from 9 a.m. daily to facilitate parents. It is not a playtime. It is assembly time. A number of parents are staying at school from 9 to 9.15 a.m. to watch their children play. Children are supervised in the Junior yard by Mrs Hodgins and the senior yard  by myself. There is no need for parents to stay as space in the playground is extremely limited.  I would appreciate your co operation in this matter.

Closing date for Allianz Pupil Personal Insurance is  tomorrow Friday Sept. 23rd.  This insurance is entirely optional.

I would like to express my gratitude to all the families for their Art & Craft/Photocopying contributions. If you have not yet paid this money, you can give it to Rosemarie in the school office any day between 9a.m. and 2p.m. €35 per child or €60 per family.

MPCC Credit Union return to the school tomorrow morning. This is a great service which teaches children the value of saving.

Enrolment: If you have a child due to start school in September 2017, please ensure that the school has your child's details. If not, please contact the school office. There is a limited number of places available in the school  for the current school year. Enrolment will close on September 30th.

Our boys and girls under 13 football teams have played two games so far. This week, the boys team defeated Christ the King BNS while the girls lost narrowly to St Nessan's. Thanks to Mr Lordan, Mr Sheehy, Ms Gibbons & Ms O Shaughnessy who give so generously of their time and expertise.

Fifth and Sixth classes enjoyed their first lessons with Whizzkids last Friday.

Third class had their first cycling classes with John Clancy last week. Yesterday's lessons had to be cancelled due to rain.

Dates for your diary: Fr Cussen has informed me that First Holy Communion will take place on Saturday May 13th. 2017 at 11 a.m.

Parents Association AGM will be held on Wednesday October 12th at 8 p.m.

There is a Recycling day planned for Friday October 14th.  Please have your bags of unwanted clothes, handbags, paired shoes etc in bags at the school by 9.15am that morning.

Cross- country Sports: The Limerick county cross country championships will be held in Limerick Racecourse on Wednesday November 9th.

The closing date for application for a place in secondary school is Monday January 16th. 2017.

School note September 8th

8-9-2016

Dear parents,

As we settle into the new school year,  I wish to bring the following to your attention.

Meetings with teachers: All meetings with teachers are strictly by appointment only. Please telephone the school office to make an appointment.

Homework: Start as you mean to continue. Check your child's homework diary every night. Only sign off on homework if you are happy it has been completed satisfactorily.

Communication: Check your child's homework journal for notes from the class teacher.

Healthy Eating: The merits of a Healthy eating policy are self- evident. Fruit, sandwich and water or milk are all a child needs. No fizzy drinks, 'health bars,'  chocolate  or sweets.

All families today received forms for Allianz Pupil Personal Insurance. There are two types: school day cover (€6) or all-year-round (€9). This is entirely voluntary but has proven very popular with parents in the past. Should you decide to avail of this insurance, please hand monies to the School Office by Friday September 23rd.

Ballybrown NS prides itself on our high standards and I would like to congratulate  Jenny Byrne in Fifth Class  who won First Prize in Ireland for Handwriting at the Community Games National Finals.

I wish to express my gratitude to all the families for their Art & Craft/Photocopying contributions. If you have not yet paid this money, you can give it to Rosemarie in the school office any day between 9a.m. and 2p.m. €35 per child or €60 per family.

School note September 1st 2016

1-9-2016.

Dear parents,

Another school year is underway. It was a busy summer as our water treatment system was upgraded during the school holiday period. This was a major project but a worthwhile one which will be of benefit to the school for years to come. The builders are currently putting the finishing touches to the work.

Yesterday 47 children enjoyed their first day at school. I look forward to getting to know them all over the coming weeks. I would also like to welcome new faces to the staff of the  school. Ms Sinead Barry is teaching 5th & 6th class. Mr Brian McMahon is teaching 5th & Sixth class. Ms Miriam O Shaughnessy has been in the school for almost two years and is teaching 3rd & 4th class. Ms Ceara Markham has been appointed as a part -time Special Needs Assistant.

Please note the following.

Children are supervised from 9 a.m. each morning. The school cannot be responsible for pupils arriving at school before 9 a.m.

Parking: I would appreciate if parents used the Resource Centre and Church grounds car parks. Children should not walk through the staff car park. They should enter via the gate nearest to the Resource Centre. Safety of children is paramount.  Please do not park in Staff parking areas or in Bus berths.

Best wishes to our former pupil Josh Adams who lines out for Limerick in the All-Ireland minor hurling final on Sunday. Ballybrown NS will be well represented as Alex Connole will play in the INTO Mini Sevens at half-time while Barry Adams, Sixth class, will have the honour of presenting the match ball to the referee before the minor final.

All children will attend Mass for the start of the new school year on Friday September 9th.  in Ballybrown Church at 11.30 a.m..

Website: All information relating to the school, school calendar, booklists, etc  is on the website www.ballybrownns.ie
