School note December 22nd

Dear parents,

Today, all children in the school took part in our Nativity pageant. Both performances played to full houses. Well done to all the teachers who made such an undertaking possible. Thanks to you, the  parents, for your help with costume etc.  I am grateful to Fr Cussen and Pat Gallagher for making the church available and for facilitating us in every way. Needless to say, the children were wonderful. It was an occasion that will live long in the memory.

Yesterday afternoon, all children in Third and Fourth class  enjoyed our Christmas General Knowledge Table Quiz. Thanks to the Parents Association for sponsoring prizes. At the end of ten rounds, two teams were tied on 47 points out of 60 with two more on 46 points. After a tie break, the team of Neal Buckley, Aoibhe O Keeffe, Emma Keogh and James Smith emerged victorious. It was a great afternoon and the standard of answering was exceptional. Today, the children of Fifth and Sixth classes tested their knowledge. Follow us on Twitter @Ballybrown NS for results .

Stop Press:  The winners of the 5th and 6th class quiz this afternoon with an excellent score of 57 out of 60 were the team of Emer Conroy, Jools Deegan, Martina Scanlon, Hazel Walsh and Grace Noone.

Garda Vetting: Parents who are willing to be Garda Vetted for the purpose of providing transport to school matches are asked to contact the school as soon as possible.

The Parents Association has asked me to inform you that, as was the case for the last few years, they will donate a gift to the staff on behalf of all parents. Teachers do not expect a gift from children. If children would like to give something personal they could perhaps make their own card as a gift to their teacher.

In order to improve communication between school and home, Ballybrown NS is now live on Twitter @BallybrownNS. Items of school news will be posted regularly. Don't forget to check the school website www.ballybrownns.ie

Parent teacher meetings: Thank you to all parents who attended parent-teacher meetings last week and to the teachers who put a lot of work into preparation for these meetings. If for some reason, you were not in a position to attend, please contact the school as soon as possible.

Attendance: In the event of any pupil reaching a total of 20 days absence from school in a school year, the school is required by law to make a report to Túsla,  the National Education Welfare Board. Parents are advised to be aware of this and to be mindful of their child's attendance record.

All classes will  attend Mass  at 10 a.m.   in Ballybrown Church on 8th December, the feast of the Immaculate Conception.

The  school Christmas Carol Service takes place in Ballybrown Church on Wednesday 21st December at 10 a.m. for parents of children from Junior infants to Second Class  and 12 noon for parents of children from Third to Sixth classes.

Well done to James Smith, Third Class, who was mascot for the Ireland v Australia rugby international in the Aviva Stadium last Saturday.

Parking: As the winter draws in, it is important for parents to be conscious at all times of safety in the vicinity of the school. I wish to highlight particularly children crossing from the Car Park to the school entrance. Nobody should park in that area at any time.
