School note September 28th

Dear parents,

                     I wish to bring the following to your attention. 

                     Parent -teacher meetings will take place on Wednesday October 25th and Thursday October 26th from 3.15p.m. to 5.30 p.m. Please note change of date. Parents will receive details of appointment times during the week of October 9th. As there is no class of more than 30 children in the school, it will be possible to meet all families during those times.

 

                    Yesterday's rain caused the postponement of our girls' football match v St Nessan's and classes with the Cycling Safety School. Both will be rescheduled with the girls' football fixed for Wednesday October 4th.

                        

          Head Lice: Head Lice are a common problem in any environment where children assemble. It is advisable to deal with this as soon as possible. For information on dealing with this problem, see http://www.hse.ie/eng/health/az/H/Head-lice/       

 

          Whizzkids , the IT programme, is starting tomorrow Friday 29th for 5th & 6th class children in  the Resource Centre each Friday for the next ten weeks.

 

              Well done to our Under 13 hurlers who reached the final of the Ard Scoil Ris Academy blitz on Saturday morning. Thanks to Mr Lordan for attending and to the parents who gave great encouragement to the team on the day.

 

            Parents Association: There is a Recycling Day planned for Friday October 6th. All families received bags this week. Please have your bags of unwanted clothes, handbags, paired shoes etc in bags at the school by 9.15a.m. that morning.

The AGM of the Parents Association will be held on Wednesday October 18th at 8 p.m. in the school. All welcome. The Parents Association do wonderful work throughout the year.  

           

MPCC Credit Union will not be in school tomorrow but will return on Friday October 6th as usual.

School note Thursday September 21st

21-9-2017.

Dear parents,

                     I wish to bring the following to your attention.

                     Our Under 13 boys football team drew with Kildimo NS on Tuesday in a very exciting fixture. Our 13 girls football team made light of the rain to enjoy a victory over St Paul's NS yesterday in Mary I.

                      Children in Fifth and Sixth classes are looking forward to  a ten week IT module with Whizzkids, a company providing an  IT skills programme for primary school pupils. The programme will commence on Friday September 29th. and will run for ten weeks, ending on December 15th. 

                           Please check your child's Homework Diary every night, Monday to Thursday. It is a good idea to sign the Homework Diary and check that homework is being done properly.

 

                         Date for your Diary: Limerick Primary Cross Country championships take place in Limerick Racecourse in Patrickswell on Wednesday October 25th, starting at 11 a.m.

                       Children in Fifth and Sixth classes will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation on Wednesday March 21st at 1 p.m. in St Joseph's Church, Ballybrown.

                 Once again, I ask parents to avail of the parking area available in the Resource Centre and in the Church grounds. Please keep the Staff parking area and the bus areas free. Please do not obstruct traffic or park in the yellow box at the gate. Please ensure minders, grandparents or others who are occasional visitors to the school are aware of these arrangements.

Safety of children is our only priority.

21 DAY COMMUNITY WALKING CHALLENGE STARTS Mon. SEPTEMBER 25th

The aim of the challenge is to go for a walk every day for 21 consecutive days and develop a walking habit. You can walk with us or on your own. We will provide you with a special record card to keep track of your walks and help you set up and maintain a regular walking schedule. There will be organised walks from the Community Resource Centre at 9.15am and 7.00pmMonday to Friday​ ​

Wear comfortable walking shoes and a Hi Vis top. (We will also have some Hi Vis tops available).  ​ ALL WELCOME​

21 day Community Walking Challenge

21 DAY COMMUNITY WALKING CHALLENGE STARTS MONDAY SEPTEMBER 25th

In conjunction with Get Ireland Walking and the European Week of Sport, Ballybrown Community Council  are very excited to host our own 21 Day Walking Challenge.  Walking is suitable for people of all ages and fitness levels. The aim of the challenge is to go for a walk every day for 21 consecutive days and develop a walking habit. You can walk with us or on your own. We will provide you with a special record card to keep track of your walks and help you set up and maintain a regular walking schedule.

 

There will be organised walks from the Community Resource Centre at 9.15am and 7.00pm Monday to Friday

 

To join one of these group walks meet us at the Resource Centre. Wear comfortable walking shoes and a Hi Vis top. (We will also have some Hi Vis tops available). The route for the first week will be a 4km loop from the Community Centre to Clarina Village, Bricklodge and back by Kilkeedy. There will also be a shorter option. Walkers should find a pace and distance that suits them. All are welcome.

Ballybrown NS under 13 girls football team  play St Paul's  NS in Mary I pitch on Wednesday September 20th at 1 p.m. €3 per child to help towards coat of bus.

School note September 14th

14-9-2017.

Dear parents,

                     Our school football teams have had a busy week. On Thursday, the Under 13 boys drew 3-6 apiece with Monaleen NS in the City Cumann na mBunscol league. Yesterday, the girls under 13 team defeated neighbours Patrickswell NS while our boys under 11 squad play Milford NS today. Thanks to all the teachers for giving of their time and expertise.

                   Fifth class were due to begin Cycling Safety lessons yesterday but the lessons were postponed due to weather. We hope for better conditions next week.

                   Each  Sixth Class  pupil today received all details relating to transfer to secondary school. Closing date for applications is January 15th. 2018. A list of Open Nights is also on display in the school foyer.

                    Fifth and Sixth class pupils will once again take part in Whizzkids, an  IT skills programme for Fifth and Sixth Class children. The programme will commence on Friday September 29th. and will run for ten weeks.  Children in those classes will receive details tomorrow.

                   Active School: Thanks to the wonders of technology, 5th class took part in a live workout with the body coach (Joe Wicks ) on Monday, without leaving their classroom!

                      Junior Infants are now well settled in school. From Monday September 18th, the school day for all Infant classes will end at 2 p.m.

                    Allianz Pupil Personal Insurance:  There are two types: school day cover (€6) or all-year-round (€9).  This is entirely voluntary but has proven very popular with parents in the past.  Should you decide to avail of this insurance, please hand monies to the School Office by Friday September 22nd.

                        Thanks to all the families for their Art & Craft/Photocopying contributions.  If you have not yet paid this money, you can give it to  Rosemarie in the school office any day between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. €35 per child or €60 family.

Dear parents,

                        As we look forward to the year ahead, I wish to bring the following to your attention.

                        Meetings with teachers: All meetings with teachers are strictly by appointment only.  Please telephone the School office to make an appointment.  If you have a concern about your child, speak to the class teacher as a first step.

                        Homework: Start as you mean to continue,  Check your child's homework diary every night.  Do not sign off on homework unless you are happy it has been completed satisfactorily.

                        Communication:  Check your child's homework journal for notes from the class teacher.  Please check the school website www.ballybrownns.ie or follow us on Twitter @Ballybrown NS to keep yourself informed on school news.

                        Healthy Eating: We are very proud of our Healthy eating policy. Fruit, sandwich and water or milk are all a child needs.  Fruit Break every day at 10 a.m.

                        Lost property:  Already, our Lost Property section is swelling.  Please ensure your child's name is on every item of clothing.

                        Children are supervised from 9 a.m. each morning.  The school cannot be responsible for pupils arriving at school before 9 a.m.

Drama: Carol Phelan runs Creative drama class in the community centre for pupils of this school. The classes are held each Friday from 3.pm to 4.15 pm and will resume on Friday 22nd September. Contact Carol on 087 8171814.
