School Note April 26th

26-4-2018

Dear parents,

It has been a busy week on the playing fields. Ballybrown NS defeated Milford NS in the Olo Cup on Tuesday while the school's under 13 camogie team lost to neighbours Patrickswell NS by a single point yesterday. Today, the school team is playing in the county final of the Spar/FAI Soccer blitz while 16 girls from Third and Fourth classes are heading to Adare to play in a Girls Football, fun, non-competitive blitz. Ewan Gee of Munster Rugby started Tag Rugby with Third and Fourth classes on Tuesday.

Today is Poetry Day in Ireland and each class in the school has chosen a poem for the occasion. Some classes have even composed poems and are compiling an anthology while guest readers are visiting classes to read their favourite poem.

Family Mass Reminder :  There will be a Family Mass in Ballybrown Church on Sunday 29th of April at 10a.m. All welcome.  For more information, please contact Julianne McCormack @ 087-9478123.

Parents Association: The Ballybrown NS Parents' Association is holding its next meeting on Tuesday the 1st May at 8 pm.  They would be grateful if as many parents as possible could attend, in particular parents who are new to the school. Those who are nominated as Class Reps are reminded to attend.  All welcome.

Internet Safety Workshop : Ger Brick attended the school on Monday to provide Internet Safety/Cyberbullying Workshops to 4th-6th class and also to parents that evening. This was very well attended and there was very positive feedback from the day/night. Ger has kindly shared his presentation for all parents to view - details will be found on the school website.  Please contact the school to receive the password and username if you wish to access the presentation. Please ensure that the information is used for your own personal use and the information contained is not to be distributed or published to social media.

As the weather improves, the Lost Property section swells with jumpers, jackets, fleeces etc. Please ensure your child's name is on all items of school uniform. Children may wear navy shorts. No denims! No logos.

Communication:  Check your child's homework journal for notes from the class teacher.  Please check the school website www.ballybrownns.ie or follow us on Twitter @Ballybrown NS to keep yourself informed on school news.

School note April 19th 2018

19-4-2018

Dear parents,

Last week, all classes received details of school tours. All classes go on tour on Thursday June 21st. You received the details in advance so that families can budget, especially families with more than one child in school. I am conscious of the demands parents face all through the school year.

First Holy Communion is just a month away. It takes place on Saturday May 19th at 11 a.m. in Ballybrown Church.

School will be closed on Friday May 25th as it is in use as a polling station for the Referendum on that day.

Today, we enjoyed the first reading of our School Story for 2018. All classes contributed to this story during Book Week. Ask your child about it!

Ballybrown NS represented Limerick City in the county final of the INTO Mini Sevens hurling competition in Mick Neville Park, yesterday. Ballybrown NS defeated South champions Scoil Dean Cussen and West champions Mahoonagh NS but lost to Doon CBS in the last game. Our team did us proud. Thanks to Mr Lordan for training the team.

The Parents Association has organised a guest speaker to attend the school. This will take place on next Monday 23rd April. Our guest speaker Ger Brick will be delivering a 90 minute Anti-Cyberbullying/Internet Safety Workshop to pupils of 4th class to 6th class during school hours. A letter of parental consent has already been distributed to the relevant parents. He will also provide a Parent Information Evening at 7 pm that evening in the School Halla. Parents of ALL  pupils in the school are invited to attend. The talk incorporates video, guidelines, practical demonstrations and discussion, providing parents with practical non-technical information and guidance for keeping their children and families safe online. Light refreshments will be served also.

Family Mass:

There will be a Family Mass in Ballybrown Church on Sunday 29th of April at 10a.m. We will have a practice for this Mass on Wednesday 25th April in the Church from 5.50-7.00pm. All welcome.  For more information, please contact Julianne McCormack @ 087-9478123.

School note April 12th 2018

12-4-2018

Dear parents,

The final term of the school year is upon us. It has been very busy since we returned to school.

Yesterday, Mrs Ivess and Ms Gibbons accompanied a team of girls to play in a Gaelic Football Blitz in Mary I where they were coached by PE students. It was a most enjoyable day.

Our under 13 camogie team played St Nessan's in the first game of the Cumann na mBunscol leagues. On Tuesday, our Under 13 boys team travelled to St Nessan's NS. Unfortunately, both games ended in defeat  ach beidh lá eile againn.

The school's Under 13 soccer team has qualified for the county final stage of the Spar/FAI Soccer tournament. Thanks especially to Kevin Conway and Mr Keoghan for looking after the team.

Yesterday, Stephen, an Athletics coach with Limerick Sports Partnership, visited the school to provide running classes for First and Second classes. Ballybrown NS places a great emphasis in encouraging children to try as many sports as possible and to enjoy a healthy lifestyle.

Tomorrow, engineer Scott Zieglinski presents a STEM  workshop for all children in classes from First to Sixth.

Best wishes to Seánna O Connor Kelly who represents the school in the county final stage of the Eason's Spelling Bee today.

Congratulations to Gerry Moroney who was crowned Table Topper champion for 2018 on the day we closed for Easter holidays.

I have noticed a certain laxity in school uniforms since we returned to school. Navy track bottoms are recommended. No stripes or logos, please.

The Parents Association have organised a guest speaker to attend the school. This will take place on Monday 23rd April. Our guest speaker Ger Brick will be delivering a 90 minute Anti-Cyberbullying/Internet Safety Workshop to pupils of 4th class to 6th class during school hours. A letter of parental consent will be sent home with the pupils early next week.

He will also provide a Parent Information Evening at 7.00pm that evening in the School Halla. Parents of ALL  pupils in the school are invited to attend. The talk incorporates video, guidelines, practical demonstrations and discussion, providing parents with practical non-technical information and guidance for keeping their children and families safe online. Light refreshments will be served also.
