Dear  parents,

I wish to remind you that  children are supervised from 9 a.m. each morning.  The school cannot be responsible for pupils arriving at school before 9 a.m.

Please note that the school will be closed on Wednesday  December 11th 2019 to enable teachers to attend Inservice training on the new Primary Language Curriculum.

Confirmation will take place for children in Fifth and Sixth classes on Tuesday, February 18th 2020 at 10.30 a.m.

First Holy Communion will take place on Saturday May 16th, 2020 at 11 a.m. in Ballybrown Church.

Active School: Last week, Mrs Walsh invited children to submit photos of themselves partaking in Active Homework. She received  a wonderful variety of photos. Yesterday, 15 lucky children visited Milano's restaurant and learned the art of pizza making.

The AGM of the Parents Association took place in the school last Tuesday night. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the outgoing officers Dermot Gleeson, Creena O Connor Kelly and Simon Goble for their work on behalf of the school and for their unfailing courtesy. There have always been very positive relations between the school and the Parents Association. I look forward to working with the new Committee.

Dear parents,

Today we had the first  Assembly of the school year. The children  in Mr Barry's class made a presentation on places of historical interest in Ballybrown. Mrs Barry's class recited a poem.   The  school rules were revised :  Be Nice to everyone and  No Rough Play.  Ms Keyes and the Green Schools Committee spoke about Recycling. The Active Schools Committee also made a presentation.

Children in Fifth and Sixth classes are looking forward to a ten week IT module with Whizzkids, a company providing an IT skills programme for primary school pupils. The programme will commence tomorrow.

Date for your Diary: Limerick Primary Cross Country championships take place in Limerick Racecourse in Patrickswell on Wednesday October 16th, starting at 11 a.m.

Today, Our Under 11 football team play Gaelscoil Chaladh an Treoigh in Clarina. Yesterday, the school's under 13 girls football team travelled to play Milford NS. Mrs Walsh and Mrs Costelloe were very proud of the girls who lost narrowly in a high- scoring game.

Today, the children in Fifth and Sixth classes will take advantage of the fine weather and go blackberry picking in the local area.

Rugby training with Matt Browne from Munster Rugby starts on Monday for the children in Fifth and Sixth Classes.

All families have received forms for Allianz Pupil Personal Insurance.  There are two types: school day cover (€6) or all-year-round (€9).  This is entirely voluntary but has proven very popular with parents in the past.  Should you decide to avail of this insurance, please hand monies to the School Office by Friday Sep 27th.

Active Schools News: The Active  School committee are running a competition to kick-start another active year in Ballybrown NS. We want children from Junior Infants to Sixth Class to bring in photographs of themselves taking part in some physical activity outside of school. A number of winners will be chosen to go on a mystery tour next week! Photographs can be brought to your child's class teacher or emailed to katiewalsh@ballybrownns.ie by Monday. Best of Luck!

Eamon Andrews, photographer, will be in school on Monday. Please ensure you have dropped in forms by Monday if you want photos.

School note September 12th

12-9-2019.

 Dear parents,

The school has been fortunate to take delivery of two computers courtesy of Regeneron. Thanks to Nigel Woods  for his help. It is greatly appreciated.

Fifth class pupils have commenced a six week programme of Cycling Safety Lessons with John and Kieran of Cycle Right.

Steve Ryan of  Music Generation visited Ballybrown NS yesterday for the first lessons of his year long module with the children in Fifth and Sixth classes.  Music Generation culminates in a concert  for all schools involved in the initiative in June 2010 in Thomond Park.

The children in Fifth and Sixth classes are looking forward to  Whizzkids, the IT and Coding classes which commence on Friday September 20th. If any family hasn't paid for Whizzkids or Music Generation, I would appreciate if you would do so at your earliest convenience.

The Cumann na mBunscol season has begun. This week, Ballybrown NS Under 13 boys played Gaelscoil an Ráithín on Tuesday and the Under 13 girls football team played St Nessan's yesterday. Today, Mr Sheehy and Mr Tuohy will travel to Monaleen for the opening game of the Under 11 season.

The Parents Association met on Tuesday night in the school. The AGM will take place on Tuesday September 24th.

Due to a number of  very late withdrawals, the school needs to enrol at least two more children before the DES deadline date of September 30th.  Otherwise, we will lose a class teacher at Halloween and classes will have to be reorganised.  If you are aware of any families who have recently moved into the area or any four-five year olds who may not have started school yet, please contact the school as soon as possible.

  Dear parents,

Mr Barry's class are collecting Aldi Rugby tokens again this year. Please hand in tokens to the School Office if you have any.

The Cumann na mBunscol Gaelic Football season will start shortly. All children, boys and girls, are required to wear a mouthguard /gumshield when playing Gaelic Football. This applies to all training sessions also. Children without a mouthguard will not be allowed to play or train. This is a legal requirement and Allianz, the school insurers have stated that the wearing of gumshields is compulsory.

All boys and girls playing in these competitions received Code of Conduct forms. Please sign and return to the team coach. We are fortunate to have so many teachers willing to give of their time after school.

Music Generation will visit the school every Wednesday morning to work with children in 5th & 6th classes. John Clancy  will return to the school for Cycling Safety lessons with 5th class next week.

Mindfulness Classes for children will be starting in Ballybrown Resource Centre on Saturday 21st September. For more information contact Therese on 0877531979.

The Parents Association will hold a meeting on Tuesday 10th September at 7.30 p.m. in the School Hall. We hope you can attend and would welcome new members. We hope that you will agree that the Parents' Association is an active positive force in Ballybrown National School.  We would like all parents to contribute their views, their experiences and their talents to making the school years of our sons and daughters the happiest and most fruitful they can be. Perhaps you will identify some ways in which you can get active! We would ask every parent to be involved. There may be one or two events per year that you could help out with. If you have a skill or talent and a little time to spare, please let the committee know. We constantly seek new activities to enhance school life. We send notes home with children with information on upcoming events. Please keep an eye out for these and volunteer to help out with activities. To contact please email creena@seakel.ie

Rugby returns to Copsewood Gaels RFC Sunday the 8th of September at 10:00. Boys and Girls from 5 to 12 years are welcome.
