School note February 27th 2014

27-2-2014.

Dear parents,

Tomorrow, Mr Curtin leaves us to take up his new position as Principal in Killoughteen NS. He has been a great asset to this school and will be sorely missed by all, pupils and staff alike. We wish him well in his new post. Mr Stephen Hodnett will take over from Mr Curtin in Sixth Class for the remainder of the school year.

On Tuesday, Pat Cannon, an Engineer from Vistakon in Castletroy, visited Fourth, Fifth and Sixth Classes as part of Engineers Week. Pat’s presentations were most interesting and opened the children’s eyes to the many aspects of engineering.

Today, two Third year students from Mary Immaculate College who have chosen PE as their speciality subject visited the Sixth classes to do classes in hip –hop dancing. This will continue for four weeks and is part of the school policy of nurturing and encouraging all the children’s talents.

Yesterday, the 2014 GAA began when the fourth class indoor hurling selection played in a blitz in Old Christians GAA club. It was enjoyed by all.

To help us organise this fundraising event we would like a parent from each class in the school to attend a meeting on Monday March 3rd  @ 8:30 p.m. in the school hall.

Ballybrown GAA club: Under 10 hurling training resumes tomorrow Friday 28th. February from 5.30 p.m.  to 6.15 p.m. at the ball wall. Players need hurley, helmet and runners.
