School note March 3rd

Dear parents,

Maths Works: Today, children from Third to Sixth classes were due to take part in  workshop run by Lifetime Lab, a venture based in Cork. However, the workshop has been postponed as road conditions in Cork made travel impossible.

Book Week activities. This is Book Week and today is World Book Day. The Junior Infants and Second class children visited O Mahony's Bookshop this week for a session of storytelling, facepainting etc. All classes were involved in writing 'Our School Story'. Ask your child about it and the objects that each teacher provided. There are many other activities going on throughout the school.

Debating: Ms Gibbons has organised a school debating team. Tomorrow, Lisvernane NS travel from the Glen of Aherlow to debate with Ballybrown NS. This is a great opportunity for children to acquire another skill. Thanks to Ms Gibbons for her work.

As part of the school's commitment to Literacy, we will be introducing Literacy Lift Off  after Easter, initially in Infant classes. This is a very successful project and several of the teachers are undertaking training in their own time to ensure the best outcomes. As it involves purchasing large quantities of books, it is an expensive process. If you know of any company/business in the area that would like to sponsor such a worthwhile initiative, please contact the school.

School GAA: A list of fixtures may be found on the website. Click on the Sports tab. This week, Ballybrown NS played Lisnagry NS in an under 13 hurling challenge. Tomorrow, the school's under 13 camogie team play Crecora NS. On Tuesday next March 8th, Ballybrown NS take part in the Limerick City blitz in hurling and camogie as part of the INTO Mini Sevens at the North Campus in UL.

Parents Association: A meeting of the Parents' Association will take place in the school tonight Thursday March 3rd at 8p.m. All welcome.

Internet Safety Training: Due to unforeseen circumstances we have to reschedule the Internet Safety Training from Tuesday March 8th to a new date of Monday March 14th at 7pm. Apologies for any inconvenience caused - all welcome.

Community Games Easter Camp: The Lisa Orsi Easter Camp goes ahead in Crescent College Comprehensive on March 30th and 31st. Application forms available from this school or local Community Games personnel.
