School note February 23rd 2012

23-2-2012.
Dear parents,
I wish to bring the following to your attention.
It has come to my attention that a number of pupils are being dropped at school long before starting time. Please remember children are not supervised before 9 a.m. Teachers in school before 9 a.m. are preparing work for the day ahead and not responsible for children in the playground.
Well done to all the children who entered the 'Design a Character' competition organised as part of our Green School efforts. The current module is Energy. The overall winner was Ian Downes. Runners-up were Eoghan Waters, Josh Moloney, Lauren O Gorman, Cian Hall and Seán Healy. Thank you to all the parents who took the Green Schools pledge on www.greenschoolsireland.org. Our Green Schools Committee is busy doing energy audits and trying to find ways of saving energy.
As the sporting season gets under way, I wish to inform parents that a limited number of helmets for hurling may be purchased at the subsidised price of €50. Please order as soon as possible. All helmets are green and white and emblazoned with the words 'Ballybrown NS'.
Tomorrow, Ms. Mc Carthy retires after almost 16 years in this school. A Mass will take place in the Halla at 11.15 a.m. Ms Mc Carthy has made a major contribution to this school over many years as a class teacher and latterly in her role as Special Education Needs teacher. She has worked with Mrs Hodgins on the Green Schools project. She has been of inestimable assistance to Mrs Dillon in bringing her talents to the Christmas pageant and the First Holy Communion ceremony. In the curricular area, Ms. McCarthy took responsibility for the whole school English plan and brought it successfully to fruition. We wish her well in her retirement. She will be sorely missed.
