School note Thursday January 14th. 2016

14-1-2016.

Dear parents,

Today, the children in Sixth Class enjoyed a daylong workshop with Colman and Paul from Colmac Robotics. This is part of the school's endeavours in the area of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths)  subjects.  The class was divided into teams who were all given tasks to perform. The winning team from the class will go on to take part in the regional final in February. Thanks to Analog Devices who sponsor this activity.  I am grateful to Class Teacher Helen

Nolan who organised this activity. Only ten schools in the Mid West area were selected to take part.

Fourth Class pupils  start a six-week programme of swimming lessons in Askeaton Leisure Centre next Wednesday January 20th. This is a great opportunity for all pupils to learn a lifelong skill.

The closing date to have your child's name on the Enrolment List for Junior Infants in September 2016 is tomorrow Friday January 15th. at 3 p.m. Please contact the school if you have not already done so. Letters to parents of prospective Junior Infants were posted last week.

Once again, parents of children in Sixth Class are reminded that the closing date for application for secondary school is next Monday January 18th. Applications received after this date will be deemed invalid. Please contact your secondary school of choice immediately if you have not submitted an application.

Clan Cluana Theatre Company visit the school on Tuesday January 26th to stage a performance of 'Deirdre of the Sorrows' for children from Second to Sixth Class inclusive. Cost €3 per child.

Parents are reminded that you must contact the school to make an appointment if you wish to meet your child's teacher. Teachers will not meet parents without an appointment.

Gach dea ghuí,
