School Note February 11th. 2016

11-2-2016.

Dear parents,

I wish to bring the following to your attention.

Ms Gibbons will  accompany a team from the school to take part in a Debating competition with Scoil Chríost Rí in Caherdavin tomorrow. This is yet another way for children to develop new skills and interests.

Safer Internet Day was on Tuesday last. Various classes explored the topic of good, safe online practice. I have arranged for a Community Garda to visit the school to speak to the children on this subject.

The Board of Management of the school met last night. This year alone, there are over fifty children seeking places in the school.  The Board has decided to apply for extra permanent accommodation to meet this demand for places in the school.  I would urge parents to bring this application to the attention of election candidates on the doorstep over the next fortnight.

Next week we will celebrate a "Healthy Eating Week" in the school. We will be looking at the salt and sugar content in some everyday foods and our evidence will be on display in the school corridors. We will be doing quizzes, art competitions and lots more exciting activities. On Monday 15th February, Christine Gurnett (HSE Community Dietician) will speak to parents at 7 p.m. in the school hall, in relation to making healthy food choices. This is sure to be a very informative event and I would encourage everyone to attend. On Wednesday 17th, Peter Nash (Limerick Senior Footballer) will speak to children from 3rd to 6th class on the importance of staying active and enjoying a balanced diet. Children will also be preparing healthy foods in school. If your child has any food allergies, it is vital that this is brought to the attention of the school before next Monday. In advance of Healthy Eating Week, Mr Sheehy's class made pancakes on Tuesday.

On Tuesday next, February 16th, a team from Fifth Class will take part in a ground hurling blitz in St. Clement's College. Hurling training for the under 13 team will take place on Mondays and Thursdays after school.

Assembly next Tuesday will be hosted by Second Class who will be using the recently acquired i Pads as part of their presentation.

A Colours Day in aid of the school's  Parents Association will take place on  Wednesday February 17th. €2 per child suggested contribution.

Reminder: School is closed on Thursday 18th and Friday 19th February  for midterm and on Friday February 26th due to the General election.

Gach dea-ghuí,

J. Lyons

Principal
