School note March 8th

8-3-2018

Dear parents,

Reminder:  All teachers are required to attend Inservice Training on the proposed new Primary Language  Friday March 16th. Consequently, school will be closed for pupils on that day.

Confirmation: Confirmation is less than two weeks away. Preparations are in full swing. Tonight, all  children in Confirmation classes, and their parents, are invited to attend a talk by Sr. Patricia Coughlan in Ballybrown Church at 7 p.m.

Today, all children from Junior infants to Second Class enjoyed a Lego workshop with Learn It.  This was paid for by the Parents Association. It is part of the school's commitment to STEM activities. Last week, all children in Fifth and Sixth class took part in Robotics. We are fortunate that Mr Seamus Barry, Sixth Class teacher, is a trained Robotics instructor.

Poet Paul McNamara visited Fifth and Sixth classes today and conducted poetry workshops in each class. This was part of our programme for Book Week which fell victim to the snows of last week.

On the sporting front, the girls reached the City final of the Indoor camogie tournament. The school also took part in the City Indoor hurling tournament, reaching the semi final stage. Yesterday, our Under 13 hurling team played Lisnagry NS in a challenge match.

Junior Achievement: A big Thank You to Rob Geary, who has visited Ms Neville's class over the last two weeks as part of the Junior Achievement programme. The children really enjoyed his visit and learned so much, proving it's never too young to start! Rob will be back next week to deliver the final lesson.

Parents Association:  A clothes Recycling Day will take place tomorrow Friday March 9th. All families have received bags in school. Please have your bags of unwanted clothes, handbags, paired shoes etc at the school by 9.15 a.m.  on that morning. Thank you for continued support for this worthwhile fundraising event.

Website: All information relating to the school, school calendar, booklists, etc  is on the website www.ballybrownns.ie . Check in on  Twitter @BallybrownNS to keep yourself informed on school news.
