School note March 5th 2020

5-3-2020

Dear parents,

Mrs Ivess' class enjoyed  the Junior Achievement Programme  with Rob Geary of Zimmer Biomet. This is a great opportunity and we appreciate Rob's generosity with his time and expertise.

Engineers Week  is in full swing. Yesterday, the children in Junior and Senior infants enjoyed a Lego workshop while the children in First and Second classes took part in a Robotics workshop. Both were run by Learn It.ie. The cost of  the day's activities were met by the school's Parents Association.  All children in Fifth and Sixth classes were in UL yesterday for a show about electro magnetic fields. In the afternoon, Sixth class children watched a documentary  produced by Engineers Ireland called 'Dream Big'. Tomorrow, Engineer Scott Ziglinski will visit the school to carry out a workshop on basic engineering skills. Children from First to Sixth class will partake in the workshop which is very relevant to the STEM subjects. Cost 3 per child.

Yesterday, Cian O Sullivan from LIT was in the school doing fitness work with the boys and girls in First and Second classes.

I wish to say thanks to Mrs Costelloe who has organised a lunchtime Basketball League for all the children in Sixth Class. It is possible to see skills improving even after four days.

Parents of 2nd Class: - There will be a booking session for all First Communion parents  tonight Thursday  at 7.30 pm in the School Hall.

Split the Pot: The Parents Association are holding a meeting on Monday the 9th March @ 7.30 pm.  We would greatly appreciate as many parents to attend as possible.

The Parents Association are introducing "Split the Pot". This is a voluntary initiative where funds collected during the month are split evenly between a lucky winner and our school to facilitate the expansion of the playground area and school facilities. 50% of the prize pool will go to the winner.

In terms of how "Split the Pot", will operate:

  • Envelopes will be sent home from school with each child once a month.  We are also hoping that envelopes will be available in the local shops.
  • To enter, include your name and contact number on the envelope, enclosing €5 and return to your class teacher.
  • The draw will be held at the end of each month in the school where the Lucky winner will be announced.  Winner will also be published in the school newsletter and on twitter.

We would greatly appreciate your support with this monthly fundraiser.

If you are not in, you can't win!
