School note April 6th

Dear parents,

We have reached the end of another school term. It has been a busy time on so many different fronts. Today, the boys under 13 hurling team played in the county final of the INTO Mini Sevens in Rathkeale. Thanks to Mr Lordan for all the time and effort he has put into coaching the team.  On Tuesday, Ballybrown NS accepted an invitation to play in a Girls Football blitz for 3rd and 4th class pupils, organised by Richard Bowles of the PE Department in Mary I. It was a most enjoyable day.

Yesterday, the Grand Final of 'Table Toppers' took place.  Three children from each class from First to Sixth qualified for the Grand Final which took place on the stage in the Halla in front of an enthusiastic audience. After a superb competition with a very high standard of answering, Barry Adams from Sixth Class emerged as overall winner. Well done, Barry. Thanks to Mr Lordan who organised the event, Ms Keyes who asked the questions and Mr Sheehy who acted as timekeeper.

Second Class pupils are taking part in an initiative called 'Second Class Helping Others'. These boys and girls have decided to help people less fortunate than themselves. This Friday, the pupils of Second Class will not have to wear their school uniform.  They will make a donation to Trócaire, €2.00 suggested.  The Trócaire collection box will be one of the gifts at the First Holy Communion Mass on May 13th.

Today, the pupils in 5th and 6th classes organised a Bake Sale. All proceeds to Edel Quinn, a former pupil, who is travelling to Bangalore in India to work in an orphanage this summer. Edel visited the classes this week to talk about her visit to India, accompanied by an excellent slideshow. Thanks to everybody who contributed.

School closes tomorrow at 12.30 p.m. for the Easter break.  Parents in Infant classes are asked to collect their children at 12.10 p.m. to alleviate traffic problems.  School reopens after Easter  on Monday April 24th at 9.15 a.m.

Wishing you all a lovely Easter.

Gach dea-ghuí,

J. Lyons

Principal
