School note February 13th

13-2-2020

Dear parents,

Two teams from Ballybrown NS took part in each of the Cumann na mBunscol Indoor Hurling and Indoor Camogie blitzes in Old Christians GAA Club this week. Well done to all involved.

Well done to the two teams who represented Ballybrown NS  in the County Final of the Credit Union Quiz in the Woodlands Hotel Adare.  Both teams performed splendidly. We have had huge numbers of children at lunchtime Quiz practice since Christmas.

Confirmation takes place in Ballybrown Church on Tuesday next February 18th at 10.30 a.m. This year 76 children will be Confirmed, the highest number ever from this school. A further 80 children will sing in the choir. There will be approximately 150 parents present on the day. There will be very little room for other family members. While this is regrettable, we are fortunate to have the Resource Centre available to us. The entire ceremony will be streamed to the Resource Centre, allowing other family members and guests to watch in comfort. Fr Cussen is looking at options for future Confirmation ceremonies.

Midterm break: School will be closed Thursday 20th & Friday 21st for midterm.

The calendar for school year 2020 - 2021 is on the reverse side of this note and is also on the school website. School reopens on Tuesday September 1st 2020.

(2nd Class Parents) - 'Do This in Memory' Mass takes place this Sunday morning, February 16th, at 10am.

Last Friday, all children from Third to Sixth Classes inclusive voted in a mock election. It was an ideal opportunity to learn about democracy and the Proportional Representation system in a multi seat constituency.

Last week, Numero Leagues took place in all classes from Third to Sixth as part of our Numeracy strategy. Numero is a fun way to improve number skills and mental maths.

Confirmation volunteers - The Parents Association are seeking parents from 3rd and 4th classes to volunteer for the teas/coffees for the Confirmation. This will be held on Tuesday 18th February @ 10.30 - volunteers are required for approx 90 minutes from 11.30-1pm. Please contact Emma Harris on 085-1134368 if you can help.

Congratulations to Séamus and Sinéad Barry on the birth of their daughter.
